Teen Review by Hannah. . .Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman

I just finished Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman and I'd say it would earn 4 ninja kicks. This book has a sequel called Eona: The Last Dragoneye, so if you like this one you should read the next one, too.

In Eon's world, there are 11 energy dragons that are each 'connected' with one of the 11 Dragoneyes, men that can use the dragon's power to control water, wind, earth, etc, in exchange for the slow drain of his life force, called Hua. Each Dragoneye trains an apprentice for 12 years, and then the Dragoneye status goes to the apprentice. This year it's the year of the rat, and this is when the rat dragoneye, Lord Ido, gains the status of council leader of the 11 dragoneyes and their apprentices and extra power for the length of that year.

Eon is training to hopefully become the rat dragoneye's apprentice. But there are 11 other candidates that want to be picked also. But Eon has some disadvantages, such as having a crippled leg after being run over by a cart when he was young. But he also has a dangerous secret. And if it is found out, he will surely be put to death. Eon is actually Eona, a girl. Girls are forbidden to become apprentices and Dragoneyes.

When her friend Dillon is picked as the new rat apprentice at the choosing ceremony, Eon knows she will have to run away to live. But then the Mirror Dragon, the most powerful dragon, and which has been missing for over 500 years, appears to her and picks her as the new Dragoneye. But because Eon did not get the dragon's name at the choosing ceremony, she cannot call on her dragon and therefore cannot use its power. This is another dangerous secret she must keep. She has to find her dragon's name soon or die. Also, she knows she has to stop Lord Ido's evil plot to have the power of ALL the dragons by killing all the Dragoneyes and their apprentices. And he is proving to be more powerful than she thinks.

How will Eon keep all these secrets, save the Dragoneyes, find her dragon, and still not be found out? You'll just have to read it to find out.

Thanks, Hannah! If you like awesome fantasy stories with strong female characters, then you'll probably like these three books:
