What I liked when I was in school, before these TV shows were on, were the teen mystery books written by Joan Lowery Nixon. Nixon won the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Award (which is given every year to the best mystery fiction, television, and more) four times, as well as other awards, for her books. She was born in California but lived a lot of her life in Texas.
Some of her mystery books contain elements of the supernatural, which adds an extra-spooky feel to her already suspenseful stories. If you love a good mystery, but want something more for teens, try one of these:
Spirit Seeker | Shadowmaker | Whispers From the Dead |
A Candidate for Murder | The Dark and Deadly Pool |
The Haunting | Laugh Till You Cry |
Nightmare | Nobody's There |
Playing for Keeps | The Seance |
The Trap | Who Are You? |
